KUCHING, Aug 6: The 21st edition of the Padawan Raft Safari is scheduled to commence on October 20, 2024, announced Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
According to him, the Padawan Raft Safari 2024 will feature various categories, such as the Open category, Women’s Open, Government Agencies, Hotel and Tour, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
“We expect 150 local and international teams to participate, demonstrating the event’s growing popularity and appeal.
“To ensure smooth transportation and avoid traffic congestion, transportation will be provided from Kampung Bawang to the finishing point at Kampung Git, where the grand closing ceremony will be held at 3 pm,” he added.
He was speaking at a press conference for the Padawan Raft Safari 2024 at the Bangunan Baitul Makmur II in Petrajaya today.
Karim said that a new feature this year is the inclusion of NGOs in the Hotel and Tour category, highlighting a more diverse and inclusive range of participants.
This annual event, he said, is aimed at reaffirming the region’s commitment to community development, environmental conservation, and the ongoing progress of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
He added that this year, the event also emphasizes its commitment to sustainability by aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) and being part of the Sarawak Delta Geopark initiative.
“This green event aims to promote environmental consciousness and community engagement in preserving our natural heritage,” he explained.
The event will kick off at various locations and times to accommodate different categories:
- 7:30 AM at Kampung Annah Rais for the Kayak Category (40KM)
- 8:30 AM at Kampung Temurang for the Open Category (32KM)
- 9:30 AM at Kampung Danu for the Government Agencies, Hotel Tour, and NGO categories (22KM)
- 10:30 AM at Kampung Semedang for the Women’s Open Category (15KM)
