KUCHING, June 14: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will be gracing the upcoming ‘Sarawak Harmony Walk 2024’ this coming June 29.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the event, themed ‘Unity is Our Calling,’ targets 5,000 participants from 12 contingents, including eight religious institutions.
“The programme will serve as part of the programme in the Sarawak Day Celebration this year.
“Thus we hope that through this, it will be a significant event as people of all races and religions gather and participate,” he told reporters when met after paying a courtesy call to invite Tun Dr Wan Junaidi and wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at the Astana Negeri Sarawak earlier today.
Uggah who is also the Chairman of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) said the walk, which spans two kilometres, will begin and end at Padang Merdeka.
He said during the courtesy call,Tun Dr Wan Junaidi said he is excited to join the event, which starts at 6am.
Sarawak Harmony Walk this year will involve the Association of Churches Sarawak, Malaysian Buddhist Association Sarawak Branch, Federation of Sarawak Temple Associations, Sarawak Sikh Temple Association, Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Sarawak, Malaysian Hindu Sangam Sarawak Branch, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Kuching, Sarawak Islamic Information Centre, government agencies and the media. – TVS
