KUCHING, June 13: Proton Holdings Bhd has publicly apologized for mislabelling the states of Sabah and Sarawak during the launch presentation of its first electric vehicle (EV).
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Proton acknowledged the mistake that led to the incorrect labeling of the two East Malaysian states.
“We deeply regret this oversight and understand the sensitivities it has caused among our fellow Malaysians. Proton values the unity and diversity of Malaysia immensely and is dedicated to respecting and celebrating all states equally.
“We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding this may have caused and welcome any feedback from the public,” the statement read.
The company assured that it will exercise greater caution in future projects to avoid similar errors.
The error occurred during yesterday’s launch event when a map displayed in a presentation slide incorrectly swapped the labels of Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, the mistake caught the attention of netizens and even drew criticism from Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
He voiced his disappointment that even after 60 years since Malaysia’s formation, major corporations in the country still do not grasp basic facts.
This situation raises concerns about the awareness among ordinary Malaysians and underscores the knowledge gap regarding Sabah and Sarawak.
“If they (corporations) are unaware, what can we expect from ordinary Malaysians? What else does the rest of Malaysia not know about Sabah or Sarawak?” he said. – TVS
