KUCHING, 12 Jun: A delegation led by the Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan went on a work visit to Butchart Garden – an award winning garden located in British Columbia, Canada.
The work visit is meant to study the rehabilitation of old mining grounds into a national historic site.
In a statement published on Tuesday, Tengah said Butchart Garden will be used as a model for the redevelopment and rehabilitation of previous mining sites in Sarawak.
“The study will play a crucial role in understanding what needs to be done on regulations to undertake the renovation work and then integrated into Sarawak’s planning approval policy.
“Since the garden was completed in 2004, it has become a well-known tourist attraction in Canada that is able to create job and business opportunities,” said Tengah.
He also revealed the transformation was executed by a private company.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and other senior government officials. – TVS
