Sarawak instills ESG principles into economic and industrial policies

MIRI, May 28: The Sarawak government is committed to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles as the foundation of its economic and industrial policies.

Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) Sarawak, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, highlighted the importance of ESG compliance in driving progress in the region’s industrial and commercial sectors.

“It is important that we integrate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into the core of our economic and industrial policies.

“The PCDS 2030 outlines our roadmap to become a thriving, resilient, and sustainable region, emphasising innovation, inclusivity and environmental stewardship,” he said in his opening remarks during the “Unlock Hidden Value: Drive Growth & Sustainability with Climate Action” Workshop held here today.

He added that the Sarawak government is committed to fostering an environment where businesses can thrive while adhering to high standards of ESG compliance.

“This commitment is about embedding these principles into the fabric of our industrial and commercial activities,” he said.

He further said that by adapting and adhering to ESG principles, Sarawak can set benchmarks for other regions and states to consistently move forward by demonstrating economic development and environmental sustainability.

The one day workshop serves as a platform to equip industries and stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to implement effective ESG strategies, ensuring businesses remain competitive and sustainable in the global market.

It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Industrial Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) Sarawak, InvestSarawak, Alliance Bank, the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei and saw approximately 100 participants from some 40 companies dedicated to advancing climate action and sustainability within Sarawak. – TVS
