KUCHING, May 14: The United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D. Kagan praised Sarawak’s efforts to draw in foreign investment, especially from American companies, showcasing an assertive approach in its business pitches.
“The state is leveraging its abundant hydroelectric resources as a key selling point, emphasizing the potential for significant expansion in renewable energy sectors.
“This initiative aligns with the increasing demands of global companies striving to meet their net-zero commitments,” he said when met by reporters while visiting the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre here on Monday.
Kagan added that the government of Sarawak, backed by Malaysia’s national interest, is actively promoting these opportunities, highlighting the region’s readiness to support sustainable investment.
“While the final decision rests with the companies, based on their strategic interests, the prevailing message from the Sarawak government encourages potential investors to explore the burgeoning opportunities within Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak,” he said.
Kagan arrived in Kuching on May 13 for a two-day official visit.
On the first day, Kagan and his entourage visited the Borneo Culture Museum, followed by a trip to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre.
Today, the ambassador paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petrajaya at 10 am and will fly back to Kuala Lumpur at 4:35 pm in the evening on the same day. -TVS
