SINGAPORE, Mar 15: Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania is looking to have more involvement in green projects in Sarawak, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
According to him, the projects include biomass bamboo, renewal energy, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), green metals, chemical and derivatives.
“Such investments are welcomed as they are in line with our Post Covid-19 Development Strategy,” he said in a statement following a meeting with Sumimoto Corporation Asia & Oceania in Singapore on Thursday.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) added Sumitomo Corporation already maintains a presence in Sarawak through involvement in other projects and is familiar with the comparative advantages that Sarawak has to offer.
“Sumitomo has several collaborations in Sarawak and is currently developing a hydrogen related production project in Bintulu.
“The company is also looking to explore and invest in the bamboo plantation project as well as new economic sectors including the green and digital economy,” he said.
Present at the meeting were Keigo Shiomi (CEO, Sumimoto Corporation Asia & Oceania Group), Haji Zainal Abidin bin Haji Abdullah (GM, Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation), Datu Hashim bin Bojet (Advisor, STIDC), Timothy Ong (CEO, InvestSarawak), and Mohamad Nor Topek Julaihi (CEO, PUSAKA Capital Sdn Bhd). – TVS
