KUCHING, Mar 12: The inclusive policies of Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has allowed Sarawak to be even more harmonious and united while embracing its diversity.

“He had recognised, supported and celebrated Sarawak as a multi-racial, multi- religious society.

“Without fail, he has contributed generously to its operating budget. Last year he had given RM100 million, and this year, he has raised it to RM110 million,” he said at a dinner hosted by UNIFOR for delegates from the International Advisors of United Partnership in the Gospel (USPG), last night.

Uggah said that from 2017 to 2022, UNIFOR had spent more than RM333.12 million on the construction of new churches, chapels and temples, in addition to mission schools.

“From 2021 until last year, UNIFOR had spent RM50 million to help 127 mission schools in their physical development and maintenance.

“This year, he has approved a sum of RM20 million to help mission schools state-wide,” he added.

He emphasised that the manifestation of the inclusive policy is also evident in the nine regional development agencies in Sarawak.

“Equal opportunities are given to all and these are not mere rhetorics but being put into practice,” he said, adding that each agency was allocated RM1.5 billion to develop basic infrastructures and to implement income generating economic activities statewide.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of USPG, Rev Dr. Duncan Dormor said he was impressed with the works done by UNIFOR.

“It seems a model for promoting good inter-religious harmony.

“I think when this happens across countries, it builds hope of a generous open hearted world,” he said in his speech.

Also present at last night’s event were Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, the Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, Rt Rev Datuk Danald Jute and other religious heads and figures.
