PUTRAJAYA, Feb 16: A total of 256 eateries were instructed to temporarily cease their operations by the Ministry of Health (MOH) under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 due to hygienic reasons.
The number is equivalent to 3.3 percent of the total of 7,677 inspected eateries nationwide enforced under the same law, according to Health director-general Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan.
“We need to ensure the cleanliness of the premises and the food served.
“Through the enforcement of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act (APSPP) 1975, for the prevention and control of dengue fever, a total of 2,917 compounds, worth RM1.45 million, had been issued, with an average of RM500 per compound,” he said in a statement today.
Moreover, a total of 431 cases are awaiting court decision while 75 cases have been charged and convicted in court with a total fine of RM143,350.
Meanwhile, Radzi disclosed that a total of 13,526 offense notices were issued throughout January under the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations (PPKHT) 2004.
“We inspected 25,257 premises and issued 5,059 compounds worth over RM1.2 million.
“Enforcement action will be the last option taken by MOH, therefore the public and all parties are urged to carry out their respective duties and responsibilities, so that the effectiveness of the implementation of health activities reaches an optimal level,” added Radzi. – TVS
