KUCHING, Feb 6: Chitose Group plans to expand its microalgae production facility Chitose Carbon Capture Central Sarawak (C4 Sarawak) from the current five hectares to 100 hectares.
According to its spokesperson, Takanori Hoshino, the expansion will serve as a benchmark in the management of carbon in Sarawak’s circular economy.
“For this purpose, we have discussed with the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg of our intention to expand the existing plant in Sejingkat to 100 hectares.
“This expansion can also be used to spur other sectors in Sarawak’s circular economy,” he told this to reporters after paying a courtesy call to Abang Johari at his office on Tuesday.
Commenting further, he said that microalgae production project in Sejingkat is scheduled to commence operation by March.
The microalgae project, which began in 2020, is led by Japan’s biotechnology company CHITOSE Group in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre. – TVS
