Energising Alliances: Paving the way for a greener future

KUCHING, Sept 7: The Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 3.0) has emerged as a pivotal platform for industry experts and leaders to collaboratively explore common ground in the dynamic field of energy and renewable energy (RE).

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Datuk Julaihi Narawi pointe out that the forum’s potential to catalyze the formation of novel alliances and cooperative ventures in the realm of energy transition.

He added these partnerships are envisioned as key drivers towards achieving a resilient and sustainable energy future and anticipates that the spirit of such partnerships will not only be a highlight of SAREF 3.0 but will also endure far beyond the confines of this conference.

“The progress we have made to this point emphasises the importance of partnerships as we continue to work towards achieving our sustainability goals and commitments.

“We will continue to explore opportunities for interconnections in the region, contributing to an accelerated energy transition for us all,” he said this in his opening remarks at the second day of the forum at Borneo Convention Center (BCCK), here today.

He noted that the ministry is proud to support this significant regional conference in Sarawak, a vital step toward realising the region’s Net Zero ambitions by 2050, extending his gratitude to Sarawak Energy for its role as the implementating agency.

Julaihi further noted that Sarawak Energy’s contributions have been instrumental in bridging the gap between urban and rural communities in Sarawak by providing a stable, reliable and affordable 24-hour electricity supply under the Projek Rakyat initiative.

“Sarawak Energy has been vital in
supporting our initiatives and programmes – working closely with us to deliver important benefits to Sarawak and its people.

“Our unwavering commitment to achieving full electrification in Sarawak by 2025 remains on track, supported by substantial investments in renewable hydropower development, these endeavours have also propelled us towards pursuing regional interconnections,” Julaihi added.

SAREF 3.0 will culminate with the Energy Leaders Forum, with key figures from the regional national energy landscape will come together to discuss and share strategies, plans, and insights to deliver an accelerated energy transition. -TVS
