KUCHING, Oct 11 : The Anti-hopping law enforced recently may serve as an advantage for Barisan Nasional (BN) to have an edge in winning the 15th General Election (GE15).
Universiti Malaya’s Centre for Democracy and Elections (UMCEDEL), Fellow Researcher Associate Professor Dr Awang Azman Pawi said the amendment to the Constitutional Bill (No.3) 2022, prevents members of parliament from switching parties may reflect a positive outcome for BN during the election, predicted to take place sometime in November.
“After the Anti-Party Hopping bill was passed and just recently enforced, not only did it give an edge to the caretaker government, but also has brought about confidence amongst the people.
“To further promote confidence towards the coalition, BN should re-analyse its manifesto, though inclusive, but it has to remain relevant in line with the demands of the people.
“This may include job opportunities with a sensible salary, protection plan for the people, poverty, connectivity especially in rural areas, not just subsidies,” said Awang during an interview with TVS.
Moreover, Awang said voters are more likely to come out, as concerns over the COVID-19 have declined tremendously.
This can be attributed to Malaysia’s vaccination rate, which sits at a satisfactory level. – TVS
