KUCHING, May 25: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, today sang praises of Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision to turn Sarawak into a high-income developed state.
“We would like to thank the Premier for his revenue generating re-engineering to find new sources of revenue such as state sales tax on oil and gas (O&G) companies,” he told reporters during a media conference after the morning session of the of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
He said because of his vision, Sarawak’s revenue managed to grow to RM10 billion from RM6 billion, previously.
In the same breath, however, he advised the current government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to focus on people’s well-being, especially as Sarawak enters a very uncertain period of economic and social development.
“In other words, post Covid-19 pandemic period, our priorities should be linking relief and recovery measures by pooling all our efforts to strengthen and sustain relief activities.
“In order to ensure that short-term income and basic necessities and fundamental requirements are made available and ultimately to get life back on their feet,” he added
Wong, who is also the Bawang Assan assemblyman, was in view that while it is good to have vision and grand projects for Sarawak, the mega projects could wait so that the financial resources can be used to improve people’s life.
“We, as the opposition members, have the responsibility of playing the constructive role.
“We hope that the GPS government will pay attention to whatever suggestions we have so that Sarawak can be a better state under the leadership of Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said. – TVS
