Malaysia ready to resume MH370 search expedition if data is valid – Wee

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Feb: Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, believes that Malaysia cannot act unilaterally in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 aircraft despite claims of new leads on the location of the aircraft based on the research documents by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

He emphasised that Malaysia, China and Australia should see eye to eye in resolving this eight-year mystery as in previous years, the three countries had agreed to search for the aircraft’s wreckage together.

Wee reported that Malaysia was willing to work with anyone as long as the data released had been verified by competent bodies to ensure the evidence is credible.

“If we are to suspect any evidence to support these strong claims, we are willing to conduct new searches.

“This is on the basis of all three nations’ understanding and commitment to resolving this 8-year-old aviation tragedy. If any search expedition is to be conducted, all three will be involved,” said Wee to the press after the launch of Malaysian Maritime Week 2022 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here.

The Transport Ministry, in a statement issued earlier, stated its readiness to work with the ATSB on a document released by British aeronautical engineer Richard Godfrey on claims of new leads in identifying the location of the missing MH370.

ATSB had informed that the findings will be posted on their official websites in the coming weeks, and Malaysia will solely be responsible for any further search operations as the organisation was not aware of any request to support a new search for the missing aircraft.

Previously, they had consulted with Geoscience Australia to validate the credibility of Godfrey’s document entitled ‘The MH370 Flight Path’ to ensure there were no other similar entities found from their previous documents. – TVS
