Assessment By Division To Ease NRP Phase Two Transition

ByDouglas Elliot

BAU, JULY 4: Sarawak Government mulls appeal at allowing the threshold value indicator assessment to be made at division level, rather than as a whole, to the Federal Government.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, this would allow certain divisions in the state on transitioning to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

“We are appealing to the Federal Government that the assessment be made by division. However, this is yet to be approved,” he said this during a visit to the Bau Vaccination Centre today adding that they would leave the decision to the National Security Council(NSC).

He added, threshold value assessment by division in Sarawak is more appropriate given the vast area in the state.

“Currently, the threshold value is for the entire state of Sarawak. Although, there are certain divisions such as Limbang that met the threshold value indicators, but as the assessment is by state, it is not eligible to shift to Phase Two,” Uggah said.

On July 3, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that five states including Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Pahang and Perlis will transition to Phase Two of the NRP beginning Monday, July 5.

The five states have all fulfilled the three threshold value indicators including recording below 4,000 COVID-19 cases daily, moderate level of intensive care unit (ICU) capacity, as well as 10% of the populations who have completed second doses of vaccination.
